Paddington 2 Movie- A Treat For The Whole Family

When I was 5 years old, my mother made my sister and I our very own Paddington Bears. She made coats, hats, and sadly, we never found rubber rainboots like the bears in the stores wore. But he had his tag, “Please Look After This Bear” and he was well loved.

30 years later, she made Emma and Owen their very own Paddington Bears. She also made their bears the  coats, hats, tag and still- no boots. But for Emma’s bear she made a special set of pajamas. It only makes sense since Emma snuggles Paddington at bed time. It would be a shame for him to wear his coat in the bed. Everyone knows that it’s not proper for a bear to wear a coat to bed. I think she made pajamas for Owen’s Paddington too, but I remember it was Emma that insisted on needing them.

I know you’re jealous that your bear doesn’t have pajamas with duckies on them.

As you can see, Paddington has been part of my family for a long time.

I recently went to the movies and the trailer for Paddington 2 came up. I was absolutely enchanted by the quaint London streets, the number of times the characters have tea, the charming interior of the homes the mystery and intrigue of a double-crossing Hugh Grant- all of it. Much to my satisfaction, Owen announced to me that he and I will be seeing it in the theater when it comes out. This made me very happy. What mom’s heart doesn’t grow two sizes when her teen son asks her to go to the movies AND see a charming film?

This Friday, January 12th, Paddington 2 will be released in theaters. I think it’s perfect to have a cozy, family-friendly film like this to help us through these post holiday blahs, winter bomb cyclones, and nuclear Twitter arguments. Not only that, but I’m a walking IMDB and get really excited recognizing my favorite British actors from the Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey.

Paddington 2 stars: Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Hugh Grant (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Sally Hawkins (Jayne Eyre), Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm), Julie Walters (Mamma Mia) and Ben Whishaw (The Hollow Crown) as the voice of Paddington. Also known as Q from Skyfall and Spectre.- another favorite franchise of mine, but for ENTIRELY DIFFERENT reasons.

Here’s a quick bit of what to expect-

Synopsis: Following the worldwide hit “Paddington,” one of the most successful family films of all time, this much-anticipated sequel finds Paddington (Ben Whishaw) happily settled with the Brown family in London, where he has become a popular member of the local community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes.

Paddington 2 in theaters January 12, 2018

While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy’s hundredth birthday, Paddington sees a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber’s antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it.  But when the book is stolen, it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief.

So far, Paddington 2 is rated quite high on Rotten Tomates. Rotten it will NOT be. And it was just announced as a best picture nominee from BAFTA.  I haven’t been to London since I was a baby, and since I don’t have any travel plans to go in the near future, I’ll just have to live vicariously through this movie to enjoy my Anglo indulgences.

My go-to movie snacks are popcorn and seltzer water. Do you think the movie theater could make an exception and I have tea and marmalade butter sandwiches? I think that would be very appropriate.
