Luxury makeup at discount prices

frugie blog luxury makeup discount we make beauty

Don’t let my blog name fool you. I might be frugal, but I love fancy. I dip into high end brands from time to time. Of course, when they’re on sale! Or when you just can’t find anything close to what it is you want, and you decide to shell out the cash for the goods. They say that you get what you pay for.

I was doing homework for my YouTube channel. Also known as, shopping for product, when I came across a website that offers cosmetic brands that are at discount prices.

Say what?

Yes! This is the marriage of two wonderful things! High end cosmetics AND a discount!!

It’s called We Make Beauty. And they carry brands such as Guerlain, Dior, Clarins and Sisley and many others. There’s fragrance, skin care, cosmetics, and hair care.  You can even find men’s products.

The best way to navigate their site is to go in without any expectations and just see what they have. The selection is wide but for instance not every foundation comes in every shade. You have to do a little bit of picking and choosing.

I have been a huge fan of Dior and Guerlain products for awhile. But they are pricey. I went on the We Make Beauty site and was thrilled to find my favorite Dior eyeshadow 5 color palettes as well as some Guerlain foundations. The savings was around 10 to 20% off on different items. I also had a coupon code so I saved even more!

If you’re a complete makeup addict like me- then check this out! Other perks include free shipping on orders over $50 and a rewards program.

I made a video with my purchases so you can check out what I got and how I put them to work!

Also, because We Make Beauty is so nice, they are giving you guys a promotion code that is valid the rest of the year! Use “Frugalista2015″ to get 15% off all your purchases.

This could really become addicting!

Makeup for Women over 40

Frugie Blog and how to wear makeup over 40

I created a step by step tutorial on a basic makeup look. It includes my tips and tricks for how I put on my makeup as a woman in the ‘over 40′ category.

But I think it’s pretty useful for all ages.

Grab a cuppa and settle back and watch. For your enjoyment:

Bronze-y eye and Bold Lip Tutorial for fall

I am loving all the fall colors and palettes in makeup right now. As rich as the salted caramel latte I ordered, so is the new palette from Sephora by MAKE UP FOR EVER.

I dig in and throw caution to the wind, playing with shiny shades and dark lips. Ooh. Want to see?

And as always, I’ve tailored this for a ‘mature’ face, so nothing too over the top.

Purple eye shadow- a tutorial for green eyed beauties!

Frugie Blog presents How to make Green Eyes Stand Out

Whether or not you have green eyes, this is a pretty tutorial to wear a shadow that’s NOT taupe. Which, let’s be real, is what I wear ALL THE TIME.

If you’re in a rut or need some tips to make your eyes stand out, or how help wearing shadow on mature eyes (ahem, the ones that droop!), then you might like this.

CoverGirl’s newest INSTAGLAM collection- Hit or Miss?

Cover Girl InstaGlam Review by Frugalista Blog

I was recently watching one of my favorite YouTube beauty guru’s review of the latest CoverGirl products.

I had to try them myself. So off I went to Walgreen’s and stocked up.

This recent collection is a big campaign with CoverGirl cover girl, Katy Perry. I definitely think it is geared for a young audience since it claims to keep you looking fabulous and photo ready.

Think “selfie”.  If you’re going to Instagram yourself, might as well look Instaglam. Get it?

Okay.

I tried 3 products. Well, two were the same. I wasn’t sure of the foundation color, whether it was going to be too orangey or too light. So I bought 120 and 205.

The 120 is too light. And don’t be fooled. It looks dark in the tube. The 205 is perfect for my light/medium complexion.

I swatched a little on my cheek in the car, and was not pleased.

But then, I applied it at home over a primer, and I couldn’t believe how well it covered and blended. It didn’t settle in my pores or lines. It seemed to have a smooth velvety finish.

The powder was the other product I tried. It claims to be a foundation powder. I didn’t use it alone as foundation, but instead used it to set the liquid foundation. I tried the light/medium #205 in this product and it seemed perfect.

The compact seems a little chintsy plastic. But hey- it’s less than $10. I liked the way it set the makeup and even the touch-ups during the day did not seem cakey or chalky.

Other items in the collection I didn’t try are the concealer and the lip gloss.

The products I did try, I give a thumbs up. All claim to be oil free and suitable for sensitive skin.

I had a hard time finding these online. But they were at my local Walgreens. Not sure if they’ve hit Target or Ulta stores yet.

Let me know if you want me to review any other products out there!

Have fun!

My Concealer Routine (includes video!)

My Concealer Routine by Frugalista Blog

Do you suffer from dark under eye circles? Has age, motherhood and life in general sucked all the liveliness from under your peepers? Do you wake up and wonder if the Louis Vuitton fairy came and left suitcases under your ocular vestibules?

Well, have no fear. I am here to help. I’ve narrowed down a quick and easy concealer routine, complete with products I used, to show you how to minimize all that dark shadows business going on. And not the funny movie kind with Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Now, keep in mind, I still look human after this makeup routine. I don’t have fillers, Botox or a magic airbrush wand to carry with me wherever I go. So I’m not going to look like a 21 year old. Or a magazine cover. It’s still just me. Slightly less tired looking though.

Take a look and tell me what you think. If I’ve confused you or forgotten to explain any detail- please let me know!

Smokey Eye Tutorial (for those over 40) or anyone who doesn’t want to look like a hooker

An easy smokey eye tutorial 40 year olds

It’s been ages since I’ve posted a makeup tutorial so I’m excited to give you this one! Sorry brother. I know these bore you. Maybe next week I’ll blog about something controversial that will entertain you.

Okay, down to business. I have been asked by a few of you who want to know how to put on eye shadow. It’s a lot easier than you think. You can do this. And a lot of tutorials on YouTube are of twenty somethings and their winged out eyeliner. I don’t do that very well. Despite my efforts.

And since everyone and their cousin does a smokey eye, I thought I would give you the tools of creating that look for yourself. And not looking like you pulled an all nighter with Keith Richards.

Enjoy!

GLAMGLOW mask- the best beauty mask ever?

Product alert- product alert- product alert!

My friend told me that Costco was carrying the GLAMGLOW mask. Yes. Costco. So I ran my little yoga pant booty down to the exact location she saw them at and bought two boxes.

You can’t blame me. These babies are the cult fave of the beauty world. Product gurus and beauty editors rave about the GLAMGLOW  jars of wonder that claims a ’10 minute facial in a jar’.

The little jar looks like this-

GLAMGLOW the best mask ever?

There are three formulas- (click here to see the website and what they look like.)

The black jar which is the YOUTHMUD; the white jar which is the SUPER MUD  (this is the one I got) and a new blue jar called THIRSTYMUD.

I probably should try the black jar since my skin can use all the youth-ifying it can get. But the white jar is what Costco had, so I’m going with that. And since these retail normally for about $69, Costco’s price was $34. A steal!

It is just like putting mud on your face. It’s minty, and smells a bit like Eucalyptus and licorice. It has a bit of a grit to it. I heard it healed any blemishes and rids the skin of blackheads. It reveals glowing skin and gently exfoliates. I was hesitant to try it because of my sensitive skin. But I went ahead- here goes-

You can modify the length of time you leave it on for.

VERDICT:

If you’re looking for mask that zaps blackheads, clears pores, and minimizes break-outs- this is it!

However, any skin can use this. Even my sensitive skin fared well and it didn’t bother my Rosacea. It brightened, it tightened and it cleared my skin. Sure it’s a spendy price tag, but I think it’s worth it. A little goes a long way. Buy it from Sephora and you can always return it if you don’t like it.

And fingers crossed your Costco has it too!

My favorite products of 2013

Frugie's Favorites 2013

I know that I’m not a beauty blogger. And some of you might be bored of my beauty posts. (I’m looking at you bro. Sorry.) But let’s face it, one of my most favorite things in the world is makeup. And just products. All beauty products.

You would think I’m a beauty editor because my bathroom looks like a store. It’s got a bajillion bottles of foundation, a drawer full of concealers, every lipstick imaginable. It’s ridiculous. I feel awful. But hey, it’s a collection. It’s not stamps, Beanie Babies or cat figurines; it’s makeup. So there.

I compiled a list of my favorites both high-end and low-end. It’s a monster list.

Enjoy my last video of 2013!!
